If you think the name "Urban Death Project" sounds jarring or blunt, you're not the first to feel that way. A big part of our mission is to speak openly about death, an important human event that we all share. Our name reflects our belief that the great event of death should be treated with honesty and openness. We believe that the health of our society and environment depend on it.

Over half of the world’s population now lives in cities, so we're focusing on a system of disposition that works in our urban centers, creating ecological wealth where it’s needed most.

When we named this organization, we wanted to be direct and clear, as well as recognizable. “Urban Death Project” meets all of our needs. And it’s a great way to get a conversation started.
